 | Justification of the project
|
Lack of medicine and the
difficulty for some people to get medication (specially old and poor people).
 | Objectives of the project
|
Direct
material support of persons with health problems
 |
Summary of the project
|
We run a small pharmacy where a
pharmacist dispenses prescriptions for poor people. We pay for a pharmacist to come to our
pharmacy and work 3 times a week, 2 hours a day. We
are encouraged by the fact that local doctors know about us and now prescribe specific
medicines which we stock, and direct their patients to us. Also we keep them informed from
time to time about the stock we have. We have also donated three and half tonnes of
medical equipment to hospitals in Radauti and Suceava. |

|
 | Justification of the project
One of the problems that poor families in the area have is lack of interest in work.
|
 | Objectives of the project
To encourage and support such poor families to work for a living and support themselves to
overcome their difficult circumstances.
|
 | Summary of the project
In 1997 we bought 80 acres of land which we divided into four. We gave the land to four
families who made a contract with us. We retain the right to take back the land if the
family does not fulfil their part of the contract. Initially we paid for the land to be
ploughed and we bought the seed for it. The families then gave us 10% of the harvest
crops. The following year the families were expected to work and seed the land by
themselves.

Support for poor families
 | Justification of the project
There are many families, who, for different reasons, live in very poor material
conditions.
|
 | Objectives of the project
Direct material and spiritual help for poor
families.
|
 |
Summary of the project
|
We
have been working on this project for many years. During the years we selected (according
to criteria that we established) 2 kinds of families or individuals who had material
needs. Every month we help about 40 families from Radauti and the villages around with
gifts of food, clothes and sometimes money. All are in material need and they cannot
support themselves. We have helped some of them find work and we try to help them
spiritually. There are another 600 families, whom we are we are aware of, who are helped
occasionally with clothes |

|
The Needs in Radauti
project
 | Justification of the project
Lack of information and the impossibility of appropriate allocation
of resources.
|
 | Objectives of the project
To be able to give efficient material help and support according to the different needs of individuals/families.
|
 | Summary of the project
At the end of 1997 we started a social enquiry in the city of Radauti. We tried to determine the needs of families in Radauti and
create a database in certain areas: material situation, employment, the problem of
premature school leaving, health problems, and another database about minority groups in
the city (specially gypsies). We have also informed them about the help that we can offer
them. We designed a questionnaire which was sent to the families in the town.
|
From all the questionnaires that were
filled in and sent back to us, we selected : 120 families for monthly help; 700 families
for quarterly help; 1,000 families for biannual help. The database helps us to achieve
programmes that reach definite needs. |

Help for children with AIDS
 |
Justification of the project
The unjustified attitude of the communities toward families
with such problems (the attitude of the neighbours, school-teachers,
etc.)
|
 | Objectives of the project
To encourage families that have children with AIDS and
develop relationships with them.
|
With
the help of some families from Holland we developed a project to help families who have
children that suffer from AIDS. They have been infected while in hospital. Tests have
proved that none of the other members of the family suffer from AIDS. At present we help
with money and other goods, three families that each have one child with AIDS. |

The gypsy community
The work among the Gypsies
started last year, with the funeral of an elderly lady who was a member of Marginea Baptist Church and who lived in the Gypsy
village of Voivodeasa (near Marginea, on the edge of Sucevita). Most of the Gypsies from
the village took part in the funeral, and they had the chance to hear the Work of God.
Also, they had seen the way of life of this lady, and her faith while she was alive. At
the funeral, some of them decided to meet together every Sunday in a house. Several
members from Marginea Baptist Church went every Sunday and preached there. Very rapidly,
their numbers have grown and now there are about 80 people who meet together. They were
helped to buy a house with 2 rooms, where the adults can meet in one room and the children
in another.
Dorca is involved alongside Marginea
Baptist Church in this project. For this year we have the following plans:
· to pay for a teacher to
teach them reading, writing and numeracy (most are illiterate)
· to assist them in
learning a skill, so they can earn their own living,
rather than begging and stealing
· to help the poorest
repair their homes, and to offer them at least minimum living conditions |
